Overview
This section of the GHT is undoubtedly the most challenging. The
approach to Makalu Base Camp along the roaring Barun Nadi has been
compared to the Yosemite Valley, on a grand scale! On our big traverse
to the Everest region we get a very close up view of Makalu's (8485m)
sheer 3000m face above base camp with Everest and Lhotse gracing
the skyline in the west.
To reach this dramatic mountain scenery you pass through few remote
villages and cross your first pass, Kogma Danda, often cloudy and
covered in forests that are home beautiful hanging orchids and
rhododendrons. The mountaineering route starts when we cross three
of the highest passes in the Himalayas, Sherpani Col, West Col and
Amphu Laptse, all above 5500 meters, enroute to the Everest region,
where we will cross Cho La to Gokyo Lakes and our final pass,
Renjo La.
The incredible views of Ngozumpa, Nepal's longest glacier
will be our unforgettable final highlight before we head back down via
Thame and Lukla. This trek is unsurpassed in terms of awe inspiring
views of the most famous mountain region in the world.
