Tilman Pass (5308m)

Overview

This is a spectacular trail in the footsteps of Tilman, via the beautiful Hindu pilgrimage site of Panch Pokhari (five lakes) at 4000m nestled amongst rugged peaks covered in golden grasses where the snow has melted off their slopes.
While it isn't pilgrim season it will be caterpillar fungus season with locals harvesting on the highest slopes – a unique experience. The challenging crossing of the glaciated Tilman Pass (5308m) opens up breathtaking views into the Langshisa and Langtang valley.
The descend off the glacier goes through snow packed slopes and tricky moraine terrain ending in the upper Langtang valley which couldn't be more spectacular –wide views of the entire Langtang range that borders and embraces the valley.
From here we steadily trek downwards in the ever narrowing steep valley, enter the lush forest and pass wild hanging beehives on the cliffs above the Langtang river until we reach the culturally rich Tamang village of Syabru Besi.

4-5	Commence Trek To Kami Kharka (2810m).
6-7	To Pauwa Pass (3000m/6hrs) & Hile Bhanjyang (3400m/4.5hrs).
8-9	To Nasim Pati (3700m/4hrs) & Panch Pokhari (4074m/3hrs).
10-11	To Tin Pokhari (4255m).
12-13	Cross Tilman Pass (5308m) To North High Camp (4720m).
14	To Kyangjin Gompa (3830m), Approx. 7hrs.
15-16	To Ghoratabela (3030m) & Syabru Besi (1503m).
17	Transfer By Road To Kathmandu.
18	Trip Concludes Kathmandu

What do we need for trekking in Nepal?

Good boots, warm clothes (we provide a packing list for each trek) and your own day pack. We provide a lot of the gear that you will need up in the mountains. Please be in touch for more info.

What size are the groups?

For our upcoming treks the groups vary between 4 to 12 people. Private trekking parties group sizes are not limited.

I'm not fit, can I still trek?

Treks can be customised to suit your trekking capabilities.

I'm travelling on my own, can you assist?

Most definitely. You are welcome to join our pre-planned treks, or if you wish to trek on your own, we can arrange a porter and guide to accompany you.

How can I offset my carbon footprint?

You could certainly find other worthwhile initiatives to make sure that you holiday in Nepal leaves as little trace of destruction of the environment and wild places that we so love, and also as little negative imprint on societies and people whom we are so privileged to meet while on our journey. We understand the world to be a completely interdependent system of human relationships and understand the responsibilities that we all have for each other – one of which is to be aware of how we travel and our externalities… despite all our good intentions. What are the costs for your treks?

Each trek or expedition will be priced individually depending on group size, duration of trek, whether it is a tent or tea house trek, whether domestic flights or jeep transport is included.

How do I choose which trek is for me?

When choosing a trek consider if you wish to stay in a tea house or tent, what altitude you feel comfortable with, do you wish to participate in mountaineering or climb a peak? Use the filters on our listings pages to filter the available treks.

How do I prepare for altitude?

The secret to altitude is time. The golden rule for acclimatization at high altitude states that one should start acclimatizing at +/-10,000 feet (3,000 meters) above the sea level. Once you reach that altitude, it is recommended that you increase the elevation of your stay at no more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) per night before you continue to ascend. Resting overnight at 1,000 feet (300 meters) elevation increase each day will help your body to acclimatize naturally.
