Overview
Trekking in far-west Nepal is like stepping back in time. The trail from
Dolpo is still a regular trading route for Nepalese and Tibetans and
leads straight to the largest lake in Nepal, Rara. We cross scenic
wildflower rich passes, endless sheep and goat herds on the greenest
grassy mountain passes, we will walk through thick pine forest and
remote & ancient villages in harvest season, following the Karnali river
into Humla, the largest and most remote district of Nepal.
To this days
no roads have been built into this remote region full of steep lush
gorges towards Simikot so we will share our trail with countless mule
caravans carrying the most unfathomable loads. From Simikot we
ascend through the spectacular Yari valley where the landscape slowly
changes into the arid high desert of the Tibetan plateau, the
spectacular view of which opens up as we reach our last pass, Nara La
(4507m).
In Hilsa we will touch the Tibet border, the western most
point of the Great Himalaya Trail, and celebrate our successful
conclusion of an incredible trek.
